is another day... today, here is a sneak peek at what I will be doing:

My guild will represent thge nat'l guild at Glimåkradagarna. Today we were there to set up the booth - watch this space for more pictures!

After all these years, dare I say that I am getting a tiny bit tired with the low interest from the, hm, other involved parties in providing links (or maybe I mean links to the, hm, event in question - ? "Internet is just a passing... thing"?)

Ystad

Yesterday I attended the AGM of Riksföreningen för Handvävning, this year held in Ystad. The meeting itself was unremarkable – as so often, the board got support for all of their proposals :-D (It is a sign of good work, after all!)

The bag is packed by the Jönköping guild, and is kept ready at all times, should there be a need...

There was also the exhibition, titled “Något att smycka ditt rum” (Something to adorn your room). Most of the exhibits were in glass cases:

And yes, Ystad has the most fantastic waterspout (unfortunately without water, at the moment), a kelpie, no less, with fishes at his feet:

Another trip

to another Big City (well – the biggest one we have, here, anyway): Stockholm.
The purpose for my trip was to discuss the changing of the by-laws for Riksföreningen för handvävning – and discuss we did! Among other things we discussed whether we (the assoc) should spread knowledge about the cultural history or just the history of weaving. Myself, I think that other aspects of the history of weaving are as important (the importance of weaving for economic purposes, for instance) as are the cultural aspects. (And I won! That is, I wasn’t alone in my opinion even from the beginning – so I’ve better write WE won.)

After the conference, we all went to see an exhibition: Royal Vintage at Livrustkammaren.

There is another interesting exhibition in Stockholm now, but I missed that. (Hope to see it later.) It is at Hallwylska palatset – and here are more photos.
It would have been very interesting to see these clothes, especially as I have the rest of the (wool) yarns... my friend and I bought the left-over stock (close to 1500 kg, IIRC) many years ago, and I still have some of it. (I remember, when we came home, we counted to something like 120 different clours, or I should say nuances. Enough to sample “unlikely” colour combinations, anyway. And so many of the “unlikely” combos have turned out great!)
The yarn has figured on this blog from time to time – for instance here, but also here.
I think all of my vadmal was woven with this yarn (not all fabric in the pictures are mine – but both the brightest green and the red are), also the blankets here. And all the V-shawls, and... and, in fact, most of the wool fabric I have made since I bought the yarn!

How to fly carpets

I have been asked how the flying carpets (now taken down) were mounted to fly.

I had a theory:

The idea was: route the rug as shown, between two rigid sticks. Put a "string" with a stopping knot under the lower stick, through the hole in the upper, and down the other end.
Hopefully the weight of the rug would press the upper stick down on to the lower stick, and lock the rug in place.

It did not work. So... plan B: put a screw through the holes, and a wingnut under the lower stick. (The rug is still routed the same way.)

This worked perfectly!
For "sticks" we used shaft bars (as they already have convenient holes...), and put a big washer on each "outside" to protect the wood from marks.
The only annoyance was that the hardware store did not have shorter "eyed" screws...

(I still think the theory could work with, say, shawls)

Frequent flyers... in place

I've found it almost impossible to get good photos of the mobiles... but now they are all in palce. Now we only hope the visitors enjoy the exhibition! (More pictures at the guild site)

Flying

Friday we hung most of the flying carpets:

Today I have got the first carpets for the guild exhibition.
(BTW - what is the difference between carpets and rugs?) Anyway, they have to be carpets - who has heard of "flying rugs"?

I haven't unpacked/unrolled them. I just ordered them in an arbitrary colour order:

There will be some more (my own magic carpets, for instance ;-), but they will arrive next week. The hanging will be on Friday next. Watch this space!
